Emil Nørgaard Munk has a Masters degree in Film Studies and Visual Anthropology from the University of Copenhagen. He is also a Berlinale Talent alumnus of 2020 and an IDFAcademy Alumnus from 2022.
His films are at the crossroads of ethnography and hybrid documentaries. His first mid-length film "Gushegu Exile", premiered at CPH:DOX 2018, and later won the award for best documentary at the EKO International Film Festival in Nigeria. His two latest short docs “Imagining my Father” and “Lockdown - A Children’s Story” were both nominated for a Danish Academy Award.
Being a musician, Emil brings rhythm and musicality to filmmaking.
Having spent his formative years in environments where “Do-it-yourself” was the mantra and “do-it-right-now” was the time horizon, he brings joy in working “trial-and-error.”
Finally, having studied Multispecies Ethnography, Emil brings an ear, an eye and a voice for the non-human entities on this planet.
